How to Perform Ki Cho Hyung Il Bu

Korean terms used in this hyung (form), in the order in which they appear:

Ki Cho Hyung Il Bu

Basic (Ki Cho) Form (Hyung) Number One (Il Bu)

Choon-Bi

Ready Stance. Translates as "Good beginning and good ending".This stance is used to begin and end all beginning hyung.

See Shun

Look. Always look in the direction moved or where techniques are executed.

Jase

Stance. The position the body is in for a certain move. Stances include front stance, back stance, and horse stance.

Chun Gul Jase

Front Stance.

Ha Dahn

Low. This can describe strikes, blocks, and kicks.

Mahkee

Block. Any move that protects from an attack.

Ha Dahn Mahkee

Low Block.

Choong Jung

Middle. This can describe strikes, blocks, and kicks.

Kong Kyuk

Strike. Usually refers to punches, but can refer to other attacking moves.

Choong Jung Kong Kyuk

Middle Punch. Target is the solar plexus, just below the bottom edge of the breast bone.

Kihap

Yell. Coming from low in the abdoment, used to aid in the release of energy and make strikes, blocks, and kicks more powerful. There is no exact way this is done, some say "kihap" while others say "hai" or "ai".

Baro

Return. Return to ready position for the situation.

Shiu

Relax. Bow to instructor, fix uniform, and prepare for next activity.

  1. Instructor will command Choon-Bi -- move from attention stance to Choon Bi Jase (ready stance).

  2. See Shun (look) left 90o.

  3. Pull left foot back to right foot into intermediate posture, crossing elbows with left fist by right ear. Turn 90o to left and move into left Chun Gul Jase (front stance), executing left Ha Dahn Mahkee (low block).

  4. Step forward into right Chun Gul Jase (front stance), executing right Choong Jung Kong Kyuk (middle punch).

  5. See Shun (look) to right 180o. Pull right foot back to left foot into intermediate posture, crossing elbows with right fist by left ear. Turn 180oand move into right Chun Gul Jase (front stance), executing right Ha Dahn Mahkee (low block).

  6. Step forward into left Chun Gul Jase (front stance), executing a left Choong Jung Kong Kyuk (middle punch).

  7. See Shun (look) left 90o. Pull left foot back to right foot into intermediate posture, crossing elbows with left fist by right ear. Turn 90oand move into left Chun Gul Jase (front stance), executing left Hah Dahn Mahkee (low block).

  8. Step forward into right front stance, executing right Choong Jung Kong Kyuk (middle punch).

  9. Step forward into left front stance, executing left Choong Jung Kong Kyuk (middle punch).

  10. Step forward into right front stance, executing right Choong Jung Kong Kyuk (middle punch). Kihap!

  11. Pull left foot back to right foot into intermediate posture, crossing elbows with left fist by right ear. Turn 2700 left and move into left Chun Gul Jase (front stance), executing left Ha Dahn Mahkee (low block).

  12. Step forward into right front stance, executing right Choong Jung Kong Kyuk (middle punch).

  13. See Shun (look) to right 180o. Pull right foot back to left foot into intermediate posture, crossing elbows with right fist by left ear. Turn 180oand move into right Chun Gul Jase (front stance), executing right Hah Dahn Mahkee (low block).

  14. Step forward into left front stance, executing left Choong Jung Kong Kyuk (middle punch).

  19. See Shun (look) left 2700. Pull left foot back to right foot into intermediate posture, crossing elbows with left fist by right ear. Turn 2700 left and move into left Chun Gul Jase (front stance), executing left Ha Dahn Mahkee (low block).

  20. Step forward into right front stance, executing right Choong Jung Kong Kyuk (middle punch).

  21. See Shun (look) to right 180o. Pull right foot back to left foot into intermediate posture, crossing elbows with right fist by left ear. Turn 180oand move into right Chun Gul Jase (front stance), executing right Ha Dahn Mahkee (low block).
