1986 was my second year of beer making. While I thought I made a batch of beer during Christmas Break 1986, my log shows I didn't aking anything until June.

I experimented with lighter ales.

No tasting notes. I recall this one was not all that remarkable. After this I generally made ales. Not necessarily a fair assessment against lagers, but my taste at the time.


Unnamed Light Ale

This one came out GREAT! It prompted me to get experimental.

Ingredients:

2 cans Munich Light-Bavarian Malt Extract (unhopped)

hops

1 oz fuggles, 1 oz hallertauer

water salts

Brewstart (amber)

yeast

Red Star Ale Yeast

Unname Amber Ale

This one taught me to be cautious in adding hops! I had NO idea whutinhuheck I was doing!

Bermaline Malt Extract

2 cups crystal malt, 1 lb amber dry malt

hops

2 oz hallertauer, 3 oz fuggles, 1 oz tettnanger, 1 cup Brews Gold leaf hops

water salts

2-1/2 cups sugar

yeast

Red Star Ale Yeast

IIRC this one never lost its bitterness. We drank it after having several of something else.
